Well… I’ve really gone and done it! It wasn’t easy overcoming the uncertainty and concerns but I’ve made the big move to Manchester from my little hometown. It took a good few trips to move all of my various bits and pieces but the dust has finally settled – with a mostly sure tone I can say I’m really beginning to settle in here.
Though I say ‘mostly’ with some level of trepidation. It’s a vast, vast place compared to anything I’ve really experienced consistently before – I’ve travelled to this city plenty of times but always had a specific goal to achieve whilst I was here or perhaps some event I was specifically attending. Now that time is no longer a dwindling factor, I’d be lying to say I am immediately certain as to how to fill up all of that time.
My old town had run its course for me really. I couldn’t disparage those old streets and quiet lanes despite having outgrown them perhaps a little earlier than I was able to get myself out of there. Whether anyone likes it or not, the town you grow up in will always hold a certain place in your mind – for better or worse mind you but I’d challenge anyone to completely forget their local road layout or closest shops from their childhood!
I’ve already started to get any idea for the vibes of this city: the transportation, immense variety of both people and industry, smells and… well the sum of all its individual parts I suppose! Once I’m more seriously acquainted with this city, I can see myself becoming enamoured with its quirks and gems – a thorough melting pot for me to fully embrace.
I want to experience everything that this city has to offer me – I’ve come here with a pen in one hand and a script in the other and am ready to let every part of my mind become influenced by this new world around me. Different walks of life, different priorities, wildly different viewpoints. It’s surely one of the most important things to achieve in life, right? To become as well rounded as possible by being able to understand the experiences of as many other people in this world in tandem with refining your own.
This couldn’t have been a better move – I can’t wait to get started!
